Full-Time Private Chef: New York City + East End of Long Island

We are seeking an experienced full-time Private Chef for a long-term position with a private household based in New York City, with summers primarily spent on the East End of Long Island.

This is an active household that places a high value on exceptional food, fresh ingredients and a well-run kitchen. We are looking for a chef who can consistently prepare delicious, flavorful and varied family dinners while also keeping the household stocked with thoughtfully prepared foods for breakfasts, lunches and snacks.

The ideal candidate is an accomplished private chef with excellent culinary range and strong instincts around food as fuel, flavor, quality and presentation. Our everyday meals are informal family dining featuring fresh, balanced, high-quality, nutrient dense food that tastes great, with the ability to move comfortably across different cuisines and styles of cooking.

We are looking for someone who approaches a private home differently from a restaurant kitchen: highly organized, exceptionally clean and meticulous, discreet, professional, collaborative and pleasant to have in the home.

Schedule & Location
The position is primarily based in New York City from approximately September through May and on the East End of Long Island during the summer months with occasional work in New York City.

The regular schedule is five days per week, with dinner as the primary daily meal responsibility. Flexibility will occasionally be needed for holidays, weekends and special events. The chef should be comfortable spending most or all of the summer season at the East End residence, weekday accommodations and commuting will be provided.

Primary Responsibilities

● Plan and prepare five fresh, high-quality dinners each week, accommodating individual preferences and dietary needs as appropriate.

● Develop varied weekly menus in advance, with enough range that meals remain interesting and do not feel repetitive.

● Keep the refrigerator and pantry stocked with appealing grab-and-go breakfast, lunch and snack options, such as prepared proteins, farm fresh/organic produce, baked goods and other easy-to-assemble foods.

● Personally shop for and select ingredients, taking ownership of ingredient quality and freshness rather than routinely outsourcing grocery selection to delivery shoppers. Know where and how to source excellent produce, proteins, specialty ingredients and pantry items in both NYC and on the East End.

● Demonstrate strong experience with gluten-free cooking and baking, including careful ingredient selection and cross-contamination prevention.

● Maintain an exceptionally clean, sanitary and organized kitchen, including refrigerators, pantry, food-storage areas, appliances, equipment and work surfaces.

● Manage grocery inventory and food storage carefully, maintaining a well-stocked household while minimizing unnecessary waste.

● Occasionally plan and execute more formal dinners, holidays and larger gatherings, coordinating with household staff and additional culinary/service support when appropriate.

● Work collaboratively and respectfully with other household staff and communicate proactively regarding menus, shopping, schedules and household needs.

Culinary Style
We enjoy a wide range of cuisines and are looking for a chef with both strong fundamentals and genuine versatility. Food should be fresh, seasonal and balanced, but flavor comes first. We appreciate high-quality ingredients and thoughtful sourcing with a strong preference for organic ingredients and healthful cooking methods.
Everyday dinners should feel elevated but comfortable, excellent home cooking, not restaurant-style fine dining. At the same time, the chef should have the skills and confidence to execute more sophisticated menus and service when we entertain.

Ideal Candidate

● Significant experience as a private chef in high-standard private households; comparable luxury hospitality experience may also be considered with privatehome experience.

● Excellent cook with broad culinary range and a demonstrated ability to produce consistently delicious and nutrient dense food.

● Strong gluten-free cooking and baking skills. ● Highly organized, proactive and self-directed.

● Meticulous about cleanliness, sanitation, food handling and kitchen organization.

● Experienced and enthusiastic about personally shopping for and sourcing excellent ingredients.

● Professional, discreet, dependable and highly respectful of privacy.

● Warm, friendly disposition and comfortable working collaboratively as part of a household team.

● Able to adapt between casual everyday family meals and occasional more formal entertaining.

● Flexible regarding seasonal transitions between NYC and the East End.

● Valid driver’s license and ability to drive required.

● Interested in a stable, long-term position.
