About the Family

A busy and active family of four in Melville, New York is seeking a talented, creative, and health-conscious personal chef to prepare fresh, nutritious meals for the family. The mother runs multiple businesses and owns several schools, while her husband works alongside her. With two busy parents and two very active children, the family has found themselves ordering takeout almost every night and is ready for a healthier, more enjoyable alternative.

The family is looking for someone who can bring fresh, creative, high-protein meals into their home and take the stress out of dinner. The mother follows a pescatarian diet, while the rest of the family eats meat, so the chef should be comfortable preparing a variety of meals and easily accommodating different dietary preferences.

Both children are elite soccer players, making nutritious, protein-rich meals particularly important to support their active lifestyles. The family values fresh, high-quality ingredients, organic produce, and healthy cooking.

The family is described as easy-going, flexible, laid-back, and fun. They have a newly built custom chef’s kitchen and are looking for someone who will become a trusted part of their household routine.

This is strictly a cooking and meal-preparation position — the chef will not be expected to serve plated meals.

  • Children: 13-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son

Responsibilities

  • Plan and prepare fresh, healthy, and creative meals for the family
  • Prepare meals that accommodate the mother’s pescatarian diet while incorporating meat and other proteins for the rest of the family
  • Focus on high-protein, nutritious meals appropriate for an active family
  • Create a variety of meals to provide a healthier alternative to the family’s current reliance on takeout
  • Grocery shop and source high-quality, fresh, and preferably organic ingredients
  • Pick up CSA vegetables and fruits and visit local farmers markets as needed
  • Prepare and properly store meals for the family to enjoy throughout the week
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked kitchen
  • Take initiative with menu planning and introduce new, creative meal ideas
  • Communicate with the family regarding preferences, schedules, and dietary needs
  • Work independently and efficiently without the need for extensive direction
  • No serving required — this position is focused on cooking and meal preparation

Ideal Candidate & Personality

The ideal candidate is a creative, health-conscious, and experienced personal or private chef who genuinely enjoys preparing fresh, flavorful meals. The family is looking for someone who can think outside the box and bring new ideas to the table rather than simply preparing the same meals each week.

A chef who understands nutrition and enjoys cooking for an active family will be especially well suited to this position. Experience preparing pescatarian meals and high-protein dishes is preferred, as the chef will need to comfortably prepare different proteins and meals for individual family members.

The family is very easy-going and flexible, so someone with a laid-back, positive, and personable personality will thrive in the home. They are looking for a reliable professional who can take ownership of the kitchen and make mealtimes healthier and easier for the entire family.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a personal or private chef
  • Strong cooking skills with an emphasis on fresh, healthy, and flavorful meals
  • Experience preparing pescatarian and high-protein meals preferred
  • Ability to prepare both seafood/vegetarian meals and meat-based meals
  • Creative approach to menu planning and meal preparation
  • Ability to grocery shop and source fresh, high-quality ingredients
  • Own reliable transportation for grocery shopping and market visits
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and manage all aspects of meal planning, shopping, cooking, and kitchen organization
  • Flexible schedule with availability for 3 or 5 days per week, Monday–Friday
  • Local candidates only
  • Must be available to start ASAP
