About the Family
A caring private family based in Wellington, Florida is seeking a compassionate and engaging Companion for their adult daughter, Emily (age 45). Emily is bright, humorous, and enjoys being around others. She has been diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome and is largely independent, but benefits greatly from consistent companionship and gentle guidance in her day-to-day life.
The family is deeply invested in finding a trustworthy, kind individual who will provide both social engagement and light support. Due to past negative experiences, they are prioritizing candidates with strong integrity and excellent references.
Responsibilities
- Provide companionship and meaningful social interaction, including outings such as movies, bowling, and lunches
- Encourage and support social development and confidence-building activities
- Assist with light daily living tasks, including:
- Supporting hygiene routines (bathing, hair washing, dressing guidance when needed)
- Assisting with simple meal preparation (e.g., making sandwiches, basic cooking support)
- Engage in enjoyable household activities Emily already likes, such as dishes and taking out the garbage
- Take initiative in planning activities and providing gentle structure to her days
- Serve as a positive, friendly presence and help foster independence while offering support where needed
Ideal Candidate & Personality
The ideal candidate is warm, patient, and naturally engaging, with a genuine interest in building a meaningful connection. Someone who is confident taking initiative and can gently “take the lead” in planning activities and structuring time will thrive in this role. A good sense of humor and an easygoing personality are important, as Emily enjoys laughing and being around upbeat people.
This role is less clinical and more centered around companionship and quality of life—perfect for someone who enjoys forming relationships and making a positive daily impact.
