About the Family

A warm and welcoming private family in Short Hills, New Jersey, is seeking a reliable, detail-oriented, and experienced Housekeeper to help maintain their home and support the smooth operation of their household.

The family has two children, ages 7 and 9, and is looking for someone who takes pride in their work, is proactive, and can independently manage daily household responsibilities.

The home is professionally organized, and the family would love to find someone who can maintain these systems while keeping the household running efficiently. Professional cleaners come every Monday to handle deep cleaning, so this position will focus primarily on daily upkeep, laundry, organization, and light meal preparation.

Children: Two children, ages 7 and 9

Household Staff: Professional cleaning team visits every Monday for deep cleaning

Responsibilities

Housekeeping & Household Maintenance

• Maintain the overall cleanliness, tidiness, and organization of the home.
• Make beds daily and ensure bedrooms and common areas are neat and presentable.
• Maintain the home’s existing professional organization systems, ensuring items are returned to their designated places.
• Handle daily household upkeep between the professional cleaning team’s weekly visits.
• Manage household garbage and recycling, including taking out trash on the twice-weekly collection schedule.
• Proactively identify areas that need attention to keep the home running smoothly.

Laundry & Clothing Care

• Manage daily family laundry, including washing, drying, folding, and putting away clothing and linens.
• Properly treat stains, particularly on the children’s clothing.
• Ensure clothing and linens are cared for according to their specific washing instructions.
• Keep laundry areas clean, organized, and functioning efficiently.

Meal Preparation & Kitchen Support

• Assist with meal preparation as needed, including washing and chopping vegetables, preparing ingredients, and cutting and marinating meats.
• Prepare smoothies for the husband as requested.
• Keep the kitchen clean and organized following meal preparation.
• Assist with other light food preparation tasks to help make family mealtimes easier.

Occasional Child-Related Assistance

• Occasionally drive the children to extracurricular activities, approximately 1–2 times per week.
• Provide limited child-related assistance as needed, while keeping housekeeping and household management as the primary focus of the position.

Requirements

• Previous professional housekeeping experience in a private household.
• Strong laundry skills, including knowledge of fabric care and stain removal.
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to maintain established household systems.
• Comfortable assisting with basic meal preparation, including handling raw meat and preparing smoothies.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Comfortable occasionally transporting school-aged children to activities.
• Excellent professional references.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Reliable, punctual, discreet, and professional.
• Flexible to work 30–35 hours per week over 4 or 5 days, with afternoon availability.

Compensation & Benefits

Hourly Rate: $35-$38 per hour

Schedule: 30–35 hours per week, with flexibility to structure the schedule over 4 or 5 days. The family prefers a candidate who can begin work in the afternoon.

Paid Time Off:

• One week of PTO annually.
• Three additional paid weeks off corresponding with the family’s scheduled travel:
  • One week in December
  • One week in August
  • One week in April
• Major holidays off.
