About the Family

A busy single mother in Colts Neck, NJ is seeking a seasoned, kind, and highly capable Live-In Nanny / Family Assistant to become a trusted part of her household and help care for her two school-aged children, a 12-year-old daughter and an 8-year-old son.

Both children are bright and active. Their daughter is academically strong and involved in school, sports, music, and other activities. Their son has dyslexia and ADHD and attends a specialized school in Princeton. The family is particularly interested in someone who has meaningful experience caring for children with ADHD, especially school-aged boys, and understands how to provide patience, consistency, structure, and positive guidance.

This is a true hybrid Nanny / Family Assistant position. In addition to providing attentive childcare, the candidate will help Mom keep the children’s schedules, belongings, meals, laundry, errands, and day-to-day household needs organized. The ideal person will be comfortable shifting between childcare and family assistant responsibilities depending on what is needed that day.

Mom is very involved with her children and prioritizes spending quality time with them. She takes over at approximately 7/8:00pm each evening so she can handle their bedtime routine herself.

The family also has a Black Labrador. Someone willing to assist with occasional dog walking and minor pet care would be wonderful, although this is not a requirement.

Responsibilities

Morning Childcare & School Routine

The Nanny / Family Assistant will begin the day at approximately 6:30am. Mom leaves around 6:45am to drive her son to his specialized school in Princeton for an 8:00am drop-off. During this time, the Nanny / Family Assistant will focus on helping the 12-year-old daughter get ready for her day.

Responsibilities will include preparing a simple breakfast, such as a bagel or smoothie; helping with hair and the morning routine as needed; making sure she has everything required for school; and ensuring that sports equipment, music materials, and other belongings are ready to go.

The Nanny / Family Assistant will then drive her to school for approximately 8:25am drop-off.

Family Assistant & Household Support

Following morning school drop-off, the role will transition into approximately 1–2 hours of family assistant and home management responsibilities.

Responsibilities may include children’s laundry and clothing organization, emptying the dishwasher, light meal and dinner preparation, preparing crockpot meals, picking up and bringing in packages, organizing children’s belongings, and helping coordinate or manage household vendors as needed.

The family strongly believes in teaching the children independence and age-appropriate life skills. The Nanny / Family Assistant should enjoy involving the children in household responsibilities rather than simply completing everything for them. For example, some laundry can be saved until the children are home so they can learn how to sort, wash, fold, and put away their own clothes.

The goal is to have someone who will help Mom not only manage the household, but also help raise capable, responsible children who know how to contribute at home.

Afternoon & Evening Childcare

The Nanny / Family Assistant will return to active childcare responsibilities at approximately 3:00pm and work until approximately 8:00pm.

Afternoons will include school pick-ups, transportation to sports and extracurricular activities, homework supervision and support, dinner preparation, helping with the children’s evening needs, and making sure they are organized for the following day.

At approximately 7/8:00pm, Mom will take over for bedtime, as this is an important part of the day that she prioritizes spending with her children.

On rare occasions, Mom’s work schedule may require additional evening or overnight support. Someone who can offer occasional flexibility when these situations arise would be greatly appreciated.

Ideal Candidate & Personality

The ideal candidate is a seasoned Nanny / Family Assistant who is equally comfortable providing high-quality childcare and taking initiative with family assistant responsibilities.

A kind, patient personality is extremely important. The family is seeking someone who has experience with children who may require additional patience, redirection, or structure and who can handle difficult moments calmly and constructively.

Experience working with school-aged children with ADHD is strongly preferred, particularly experience with boys. Familiarity with dyslexia, learning differences, or specialized educational environments would also be valuable.

The right person will be nurturing without doing everything for the children. They will understand the importance of setting expectations, teaching responsibility, and helping children develop independence and practical life skills.

Strong communication with Mom is essential. This person should be proactive, organized, dependable, and comfortable communicating about the children’s schedules, needs, behaviors, activities, and household priorities.

Because no two days will look exactly alike, the Nanny / Family Assistant must also be able to pivot and remain flexible. Someone who notices what needs to be done and takes initiative without requiring constant direction will thrive in this household.

The family is ultimately looking for a warm, capable professional who wants to become a trusted part of the household and work collaboratively with Mom to help raise great kids while keeping family life organized and running smoothly.
