Location: Northern/Central Virginia (Centerville & Bumpass)
Type: Full-Time, Live-Out (Flexible 40 hours/week)
Salary: $100,000 – $150,000+ per year (commensurate with experience)
Start Date: ASAP
Position Overview
A private, family-centered estate is seeking an experienced, highly capable, and self-motivated Property Caretaker to oversee and maintain properties across Virginia.
We value low-drama, respectful, and reliable individuals who take pride in their craft and work autonomously. This role is ideal for a hands-on general maintenance or landscaping professional who appreciates independence, high standards, and a balanced lifestyle, with ample off-time flexibility to enjoy local outdoor activities like fishing, hunting, woodworking, or gardening once work goals are met.
Primary Responsibilities
- General Maintenance & Repairs:
- Perform hands-on light electrical, painting, carpentry, and minor plumbing repairs.
- Execute routine property walk-throughs to identify issues early (e.g., roof drains, stone patio drainage, leak prevention).
- Maintain all lighting (replacing specialty bulbs) and monitor utility performance to flag anomalies.
- Maintain and manage household inventory, tools, and supplies.
- Groundskeeping & Outdoor Maintenance:
- Oversee light landscaping and flower bed upkeep (weeding, minor trimming) between professional seasonal cleanups.
- Perform basic irrigation fixes (e.g., replacing broken sprinkler heads).
- Assist with 5-acre property care: clearing fallen branches/trees, cutting and stacking firewood.
- Keep patio areas, lower outdoor living spaces, and drain paths clear of leaves and debris.
- Vendor & Service Provider Supervision:
- Act as the primary point of contact for external contractors and specialized repair services.
- Minimize unnecessary outside traffic by handling most day-to-day upkeep directly.
- Property Oversight & Vehicle Care:
- Manage mail, packages, and deliveries when owners are traveling.
- Oversee general security and conduct periodic inspections across primary and seasonal residences.
- Perform basic maintenance and upkeep for household vehicles.
- Assist with heavy lifting on occasion (e.g., moving boxes, handling seasonal transitions).
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Professional & Personality Fit: Low-key, calm demeanor; self-starter who works well independently without needing constant supervision or conversational entertaining. Comfortable around both male and female household members.
- Skillset: Diverse hands-on experience in trade work (carpentry, mechanical/irrigation repair, light electrical, landscaping).
- Lifestyle Integration: Someone looking for a stable, long-term position who treats the estate with care and discretion.
- Pet Friendly: Comfortable around dogs (occasional extended family pets may be present).
Compensation & Logistics
- Schedule: Flexible 40 hours per week (hours adapt based on property needs and seasonal travel).
- Travel & Expenses: Travel between Northern Virginia and Lake Anna will be fully covered.
- Location Flexibility: Candidates residing in or between Northern VA (Centerville, Gainesville, Manassas) and Central VA (Lake Anna/Bumpass) are ideally situated.
- Benefits: 2 Weeks Paid Time Off, Holidays. Health Insurance Stipend for the right candidate.Disclaimer: This job description represents the duties and criteria provided by the client at the time of posting.
