About the Family

A warm family in Forest Hills, NY is seeking a dependable, attentive, and proactive Nanny/Housekeeper to care for their 2.5 year-old-son and provide light household support. The mother is home and actively involved in her son’s daily routine, so this position is a collaborative role for someone who can work well alongside a parent, while also confidently taking ownership of assigned responsibilities.

Their son has cerebral palsy and receives occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy in the home. He is walking and talking, and the family is committed to supporting his continued development, independence, and progress toward developmental milestones. They are looking for someone who is patient, engaged, and eager to reinforce the strategies recommended by his therapists throughout everyday activities.

This is a varied position that combines attentive childcare with light housekeeping during appropriate windows throughout the day. The ideal candidate is someone who follows instructions carefully, anticipates needs, takes initiative, and treats the family’s home and their child’s care with genuine attention and respect.

  • Children: One child, 2.5 years old

  • Home Size: Apartment residence in Forest Hills

  • Household Staff: Occupational, Physical, and Speech Therapist

Responsibilities

Childcare

  • Provide attentive, nurturing, and safety-conscious care for the 2.5 year-old.

  • Engage him in age-appropriate play, reading, and activities that encourage learning, movement, and development.

  • Take him on walks to nearby playgrounds, parks, and the local library.

  • Provide support during mealtimes, feeding, and the child’s daily routine.

  • Assist with bath time and the evening routine as needed.

  • Support ongoing potty-training efforts

  • Incorporate guidance from his occupational, physical, and speech therapists into playtime, mealtimes, and daily activities.

  • Encourage independence and help him practice using his left hand and the affected side of his body.

  • Maintain close supervision and remain attentive to his whereabouts, safety, and needs at all times.

  • Communicate proactively with the mother and work collaboratively with her throughout the day.

Household Support

  • Prioritize light housekeeping during the child’s nap, therapy sessions, or other appropriate periods when he does not require direct attention.

  • Recognize when household tasks can be completed and transition between childcare and household responsibilities without needing constant direction.

  • Vacuum and mop floors regularly and as needed.

  • Clean up after meals and maintain tidy kitchen and dining areas.

  • Assist with general tidying and resetting shared spaces throughout the day.

  • Fold and put away laundry or assist with additional laundry needs when requested.

  • The family already manages most laundry, grocery shopping, and meal preparation. This role is intended to provide practical, hands-on household assistance rather than full housekeeping or household management.

Ideal Candidate & Personality

The ideal candidate is:

  • Warm, nurturing, patient, and genuinely engaged with young children.

  • Exceptionally attentive, organized, dependable, and safety-conscious.

  • Receptive to feedback and comfortable following the family’s instructions and established routines.

  • Proactive and able to take initiative without needing to be reminded of routine responsibilities.

  • Developmentally minded, with a genuine interest in helping a child build confidence, independence, and new skills.

  • Comfortable working collaboratively with a parent who is home and actively involved in childcare.

  • Flexible and able to transition naturally between childcare and light housekeeping as the day’s needs change.

  • Active and enthusiastic about taking a child outdoors and planning engaging activities.

Experience caring for children with developmental delays, cerebral palsy, or other special needs is highly valued. Russian-speaking candidates are a plus, as the child has prior exposure to Russian, but this is not a requirement.

Requirements

  • Previous professional childcare experience with toddlers or young children.

  • Experience supporting children with developmental needs is strongly preferred.

  • Excellent judgment, attention to detail, and commitment to child safety.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to follow instructions consistently.

  • Willingness to reinforce therapist-recommended strategies and support potty training.

  • Ability to assist with light housekeeping and maintain a tidy home environment.

  • Comfortable working in a home where a parent is present for much of the day.

  • Ability to work the full six-day schedule, including Fridays and Saturdays.

  • No personal vehicle required; the family lives within walking distance of parks, playgrounds, the library, and other local amenities.

  • Respect for the family’s kosher household practices and Shabbat observance.

Benefits

  • Guaranteed weekly hours.

  • Two weeks of paid time off annually (available after six months of employment) approved by the family with advance notice.
