A private family based in Dorado, Puerto Rico, is seeking an exceptional Traveling Private Educator to support two children, ages 6 and 11, academically and developmentally. This is a long-term opportunity for an accomplished educator who can provide highly personalized instruction, maintain academic continuity during extensive travel, and support the children as they progress from elementary and middle school through high school.

Education is a central priority for this family. They have a strong preference for a candidate with a PhD from an Ivy League institution, along with many years of experience in both school settings and private education. The family is committed to finding the strongest possible candidate, with the academic depth, teaching experience, and interpersonal skills to provide an exceptional educational experience.

The ideal candidate is intellectually curious, proactive, adaptable, and warm, with the ability to make rigorous learning engaging and accessible. Candidates should demonstrate sustained success in previous positions, a commitment to long-term employment, and the ability to guide children through increasingly advanced coursework.

The younger child is in first grade and enjoys golf, ceramics, sculptures, and model planes. He is inquisitive and asks thoughtful questions. The older child is in sixth grade, takes honors math and literature, and enjoys musical theater. The educator must be comfortable supporting foundational learning while also providing challenging instruction and preparing for future academic demands.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized academic support tailored to each child’s curriculum, abilities, interests, and long-term goals.
  • Support learning across core subjects, with the capability to guide students from elementary through high school.
  • Reinforce foundational skills for the younger child and support honors-level coursework for the older child.
  • Assist with reading comprehension, literature, writing, mathematics, homework, study habits, and organization.
  • Develop enrichment activities and projects that extend learning beyond school assignments.
  • Coordinate with parents, teachers, and household staff to maintain continuity between school, home, and travel.
  • Monitor academic progress, anticipate challenges, and adapt instruction to address each child’s needs.
  • Support standardized test preparation and transitions to more advanced academic programs when appropriate.
  • Incorporate travel destinations, cultural experiences, and the children’s interests into meaningful learning opportunities.
  • Maintain consistent educational routines during domestic and international travel.
  • Provide age-appropriate guidance and supervision while collaborating with the existing nanny team.
  • Build a lasting, supportive relationship with the children and remain flexible as the family’s needs evolve.

Qualifications

  • Strong preference for a PhD from an Ivy League institution.
  • Many years of demonstrated teaching experience in both school settings and private education.
  • Experience and instructional capabilities spanning elementary, middle, and high school.
  • A strong record of long-term employment and sustained relationships with schools or private families.
  • Ability to support rigorous curricula, honors-level work, and academic development across multiple subjects.
  • Experience as a private educator.
  • Extensive travel experience and the ability to maintain educational consistency while abroad.
  • Excellent communication, organization, initiative, and professional judgment.
  • A warm, patient approach that encourages curiosity, confidence, and independent thinking.
  • Willingness and ability to undertake extensive domestic and international travel.
  • Exceptional discretion and excellent verifiable references.
