The family has three children, ages 7, 6, and 15 months. The two older children attend school during the day, while the youngest is home and requires attentive, hands-on care.

The family’s 7-year-old son has been diagnosed with Level 1 Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). They are specifically seeking a candidate who has professional experience working with neurodivergent children, particularly children on the autism spectrum. Formal training, certification, or specialized experience in autism support is highly preferred.

The ideal candidate will understand the importance of patience, consistency, emotional awareness, and individualized support while creating a positive and encouraging environment for all three children.

This is a blended childcare and family assistant position, ideal for someone who enjoys working with children while also helping manage the daily operations of a busy household.

Children: Three children, ages 7 (boy), 6 (girl), and 15 months (boy)
Pets: One older dog
Household Staff: The family currently employs a nanny/household assistant who will remain on.
Household Environment: Busy family home requiring flexibility, organization, and a proactive approach

Responsibilities

Childcare & Developmental Support

  • Provide loving, attentive, and developmentally appropriate care for the family’s three children, with primary daytime responsibility for the 15-month-old.
  • Support the older children before and after school, as well as during school breaks and days off.
  • Assist the family’s 7-year-old son with maintaining consistent routines, navigating transitions, and reinforcing strategies recommended by his parents and care providers.
  • Help coordinate and facilitate the son’s appointments, therapies, and other developmental support activities as needed.
  • Plan engaging, age-appropriate activities that encourage learning, independence, creativity, and social-emotional development.
  • Maintain a calm, patient, and supportive environment that respects each child’s individual needs and personality.
  • Assist with children’s meals, snacks, daily routines, and general organization.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding the children’s schedules, progress, appointments, and daily activities.

Family Assistant & Household Responsibilities

  • Assist with day-to-day household organization and family scheduling.
  • Help coordinate children’s appointments, activities, school-related needs, and transportation.
  • Prepare simple, healthy meals and assist with family meal preparation as needed.
  • Handle family errands, grocery shopping, and household supply replenishment.
  • Maintain organized children’s spaces, playrooms, clothing, and personal belongings.
  • Assist with children’s laundry and light household tasks to help keep the home running smoothly.
  • Anticipate household needs and proactively assist with daily priorities.
  • Provide additional family assistant support as needed, working collaboratively with the parents to maintain an efficient and well-organized home.

Ideal Candidate & Personality

The ideal candidate is warm, nurturing, patient, and genuinely passionate about working with children. They should have a strong understanding of child development and be particularly comfortable supporting neurodivergent children.

The family is seeking someone who is experienced with autism, emotionally intuitive, adaptable, and confident in providing individualized care. A calm demeanor, excellent communication skills, and the ability to establish consistent routines are essential.

This individual should also be highly organized, proactive, and comfortable balancing childcare with family assistant responsibilities. They should be someone who naturally identifies what needs to be done, takes initiative, and enjoys helping a busy family stay organized.

Flexibility and a team-oriented mindset are important, as the position requires weekend availability and a schedule that differs from a traditional Monday-through-Friday nanny role.

The family hopes to find a dependable, professional candidate who is interested in a long-term position and becoming a trusted part of their household.

Requirements

  • Previous professional nanny and/or family assistant experience in a private household.
  • Demonstrated experience working with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD); specialized training or certification strongly preferred.

  • Comfortable using a personal vehicle for work-related driving, with mileage or gas reimbursement provided by the family.
  • Comfortable working in a household with an older dog.
  • Available to work weekends, with Wednesdays and Thursdays off.
  • Flexible with a later start time, typically around 10:00 or 11:00 AM.
  • CPR/First Aid certified or willing to obtain certification.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Excellent professional references.
  • Trustworthy, reliable, discreet, and interested in a long-term commitment.
